After recording three essential and groundbreaking albums for ESP circa 1965-1970, the Godz certainly rate alongside the Stooges, MC5, the Monks, and the Fugs as the precursors to American punk and art rock. By this installment, they had toned down somewhat to the speed of a odd psychedelic rock group without half the fury and madness that made Contact High With the Godz, Godz 2, and The Third Testament such mind-blowing records. This recording, Alien, and Pass on This Side are the three less challenging of the Godz albums. No less the chaotic charging acoustic mantras that gave signature to the group is still in tact after the watering-down process. The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin Jack Flash” is given murderous treatment — which is worth owning this disc for alone.
