1. Dizzying guitar work with rattling synths, surf rock organ and urgent vocals. This is P-Model, widely regarded as Japan’s answer to Devo; and this is their debut album. And on it, they cover a good variety of sounds. One minute they’re starting punk chants, the next they’re having nervous musical meltdowns. The amount of straight-up rock songs gets a bit repetitive, but the best ones, such as “Art Mania”, “Roomrunner” and “Pinky Trick” are a rush of frantic energy. But after a string of uptempo rockers, “Kameari Pop” slows things down a bit with a minimal but killer bass line and hi-pitched drums reminiscent of early OMD. “Art Blind” closes the album with an “Ohm Sweet Ohm”-like electronic dirge.
